AirAsia aircraft lost

AirAsia flight QZ 8501 is on its way from Surabaya to Singapore was reported missing eight minutes after taking off this morning.

Director of Air Transport Ministry, Djoko Murjatmojo confirmed, the plane carrying 155 passengers disappeared from the radar.

According to Indonesian media reports, the Airbus A320-200 was carrying 138 adult passengers, including seven crew members, 16 children and one baby.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said Malaysia is ready to assist Indonesia in respect of loss of aircraft AirAsia Indonesia QZ8501 today.

Recognizing still waiting for full details on the incident, he said, what can be confirmed so far is Indonesia's plane had disappeared from radar after takeoff.

"This means that most likely a disaster has occurred on the plane.

"That's all I can know and we will help you to find what had happened to the plane," he said at a press conference after visiting the flood relief centers in Padang Tengku Secondary School here today.

He was commenting on Indonesia AirAsia flight from Surabaya to Singapore reported lost contact with air traffic control center at 7:24 am local time.

The missing plane was an Airbus A320-200 with registration number PK-AXC.
